Known as “The Real Little Italy” in the Belmont section of the Bronx, the area has lost some of its identity and vitality over the years. The goal of the Belmont Business Improvement District is to revitalize this once vibrant commercial neighborhood by generating a more attractive retail environment and enhanced foot traffic. The MNLA master plan strengthens entry points into the district and creates a series of connected spaces by establishing streetscape standards and typologies of place appropriate to the character and function of the district.  Attention is on place-making through integrated branding elements. These include street lights, wayfinding, upgraded open spaces, pedestrian-friendly sidewalks, appropriate planting strategies, durable street furniture, and facade improvements.

Arthur Avenue received the 2016 Great Street Award from the American Planning Association, recognized for "its rich streetscape that promotes Italian heritage."
