MNLA was awarded first place in this design ideas competition for an abandoned elevated rail corridor that runs from the Buffalo River to the DL&W Terminal near Canalside in downtown Buffalo. MNLA’s concept marries the rich character of existing infrastructural, ecological and neighborhood identities of the immediate community, while also bridging a larger regional ecological and recreation network. The multimodal path that celebrates movement is the spine that brings people together with the natural environment throughout all seasons. The mile and a half long ribbon of greenway will one day be a destination unto itself, as it becomes an integral connector between the surrounding neighborhoods and two distinct areas of the waterfront.
