4720 Center Boulevard, formerly known as East Coast 6, is part of a complex of seven buildings that lie at the north end of Hunter's Point on the former Pepsi Cola bottling plant site. They have transformed this Long Island City location from a post-industrial, contaminated waterfront to a vibrant and walkable neighborhood.
The design concept for the private terraces and 3/4 acre open space extends the visual experience from the lobby into a physical expression in the landscape where framed views of the Manhattan skyline evolve into an expansive panorama of the East River. Using subtle topographic manipulation, the interface between the private courtyard and the adjacent public park is visually seamless but physically distinct.
Embedded within the design are a variety of sustainable site strategies including permeable pavers, no-mow meadow, and a rock-lined biofiltration basin.
