MNLA designed interconnected public spaces adjacent to two new retail and residential towers in Philadelphia's East Market district. The public spaces are part of a $230M phase one mixed-use project under construction in a 4.3-acre block at 12th and East Market Street. The development is enhanced by a mid-block pedestrian walkway planned from Market Street to Chestnut Street and Midtown Village. Retail shops and restaurants will line the walkway, serving the city's residential core and tourists. The design responds to the new commercial advertising zoning for the East Market district and creates a thru-block connection, a distinctive feature of this historic city's neighborhoods.
