HM Jackson Playground is one of the first completed projects under NYC Department of Parks and Recreation Community Parks Initiative program that upgrades pocket parks in low-income neighborhoods.  At just over half an acre in size, the park hosts 3 basketball courts, volleyball, running track, and a shaded sitting area.  A vibrant mural on the adjacent school’s façade was cleaned and protected, creating a lively backdrop to those visiting the site.

Completely invisible, yet very significant, are the stormwater detention tanks below the basketball courts that collect both street and park runoff.  The water is then released slowly into the storm sewer system after the rainfall subsides.
