Brooklyn Waterfront Greenway projects are being designed by MNLA in two communities in this New York borough--Sunset Park and Owl’s Head. The Sunset Park segment addresses connections along the emerging waterfront district on Second Avenue and considers the multiple utilities that are located in the Sunset Park sidewalk zone. The new dedicated bike lane is part of a greenway system that, when completed, will comprise 14 miles of designated off-street pathways, enhanced sidewalks, and some on-street bike lanes that will connect the waterfront neighborhoods of Greenpoint, Williamsburg, the Brooklyn Navy Yard, Vinegar Hill, DUMBO, Downtown Brooklyn, Red Hook, and Sunset Park. The Owl’s Head segment of the greenway addresses unique conditions over a bridge structure in addition to the preservation of mature trees in a residential neighborhood, including a 42-inch caliper American elm. Both projects are being designed with the engineering team, the NYC Department of Transportation, and community input.
