MNLA prepared an outdoor space plan for St. Luke’s School, a private K-8 school located in the heart of historic Greenwich Village, with a 3.5 acre site that shares its open spaces with the landmarked Church of St. Luke in the Fields.

The first phase of the development of MNLA’s open space plan was the implementation of a ground level playground. MNLA collaborated with the school administration to ensure that the design incorporates challenging, age-appropriate engagement across all of the play elements. The play equipment provides opportunities to master balance, strength, coordination, climbing ability, problem solving skills, endurance, gross and fine motor skills, communication, conflict resolution, social interaction and emotional growth. A plethora of textures encourage sensory play across the site. The next two phases of the open space plan include the development of a sports field and teaching garden on the school’s roof and a ground floor amphitheater that will used for programming by both the school and church.
