The Nightingale-Bamford School is a preeminent private school for girls on Manhattan's Upper East Side. To stay competitive with comparable institutions, the school expanded its educational offerings into a new building, forming a courtyard and terraced setback. MNLA's design creates a viewing court from administrative offices on the first floor and a greenhouse with an outdoor terrace on the sixth floor. The greenhouse is the first of its kind for a 12-year school, providing horticultural study for elementary through high school students. The adjacent terrace offers hands-on experience with growing plants and for studying their reproductive cycle over the course of the academic year.
