Post-September 11, 2001, Route 9A south of the World Trade Center required complete reconstruction. MNLA 's redesign of a much-loved playground incorporates many more neighborhood recreation amenities and has become the heart of the southern residential community. Within the nearly 2-acre park are a dog run, toddler and older children’s playground, a multi-purpose lawn with a picnic trellis, two half-court basketball courts, and a large community garden.
The park was constructed in just eight months so the residents did not lose summer use.
"This new playground has given kids and families a new place to gather and play, and is a perfect example of how collaboration between community members and government can result in a wonderful amenity for the community." Senator Squadron January 7, 2010
